In January 2023 a property owner who had refused to comply with Teton County's request to correct their deed threatened litigation against Teton County, the Teton County Clerk, and Greenwood Mapping, Inc. because their property was not shown on the public GIS MapServer. Teton County would not provide legal representation for Greenwood Mapping, Inc.

For the County this sets a bad precedent - that a property owner can ignore the disclaimer on the web app, and that they can threaten litigation to get their property shown as they like it on the County's GIS, thus destroying the credibility of the GIS and public County data.

For Greenwood Mapping, Inc. it was an insurmountable financial hurdle to defend its role in maintaining and publishing public data on behalf of Teton County. For maintaining the GIS, Land Records and the online Property Tax payment systems Greenwood Mapping, Inc. has billed Teton County the following amounts the for last three fiscal years:

In order to get indemnification from Teton County for the remainder of Greenwood's contract (through June 30, 2023) Greenwood had to sign a contract amendment that stated Greenwood would not renew the contract for the coming fiscal year beginning July 1, 2023.
